We studied French in La Rochelle and explored the region on foot, by bike, and by car. France is much more than Paris!
Travel
Maxing out on Star Wars and deserts
Our last stop in the desert and its exciting side-visits. I’m not sure I’m cut out for desert life, but I’m glad we went!
Have you ever wanted to dwell in a cave?
Visiting the troglodyte homes in Matmata and Tamezret, and seeing an oasis first-hand. Beautiful… remote… unnerving…
Finally… to Djerba
The ferry took us to Djerba, where we found two mind-expanding sites in El Ghriba Synagogue and Djerbahood, and then we dipped into the sea.
The Gem of El Djem
Me ‘n’ Ali made it to the Colosseum at El Djem, and to the gorgeous national museum full of preserved Roman mosaics.
North and West in Tunisia
In which Ali and I head, ahem, north and west. Or rather west and then north. Very near Algeria, actually. And from HOT to mountain to sea.
Enjoying La Marsa and Tunis one more time
When Ali decided to come see me in Tunisia, I got a chance to make amends for my failure to see more of this beautiful country. Post #1!
Hammamet, Tunisia
A lovely quick weekend visit to a hotel in Hammamet. Sparkly seas, delicious food, and a fortress to explore in the medina.
Flying
On the vagaries of nonsensical panic, the gallantry of a good man, and my (possible) return to airplane grace, with a little love for DCA
Camel love
A quick story about the camels I’ve passed around while traveling, ever since moving to Tunisia. I got to see the shop where they’re made!
